About the Artist
Denise Colletti finds joy and calm in the act of making and is drawn to the tactile, meditative ture of clay work. For her, the studio is where play and improvisation meet self-care, a quiet place where time slows down and every gesture carries meaning. Teaching has brought a concentrated focus to her practice, giving her a critical eye toward detail and refinement as she creates.
Experimenting with stoneware clay allows her to stretch the forms and play with texture, while cone ten reduction firing adds translucent color and variability to the glaze. There is always an element of surprise in how the kiln atmosphere has developed the surface.
While making beautiful things is a satisfying goal, creating functiol ceramics—pieces that are used and lived with—adds a deep sense of purpose. Inspired by the person who will be sipping coffee out of one of her mugs, her pieces welcome the hands and invite the user to create a connection.
