About: Jennifer Myers is an award winning abstract mixed media artist based in Brookfield, IL. She has been mostly self taught and is constantly researching new techniques to incorporate into her unique style. Jennifer has been selling her art at local juried art shows and markets for 11 years now. She likes to try and push the boundaries between abstract and realism and takes her inspiration from nature and love of the ocean. With her focus mainly being landscape, Jennifer uses many layers of paint to create texture and contrast, which give her pieces movement and depth. The texture in her painting’s play with the idea of cracked earth, that takes your eye on a story which softens beneath the clouds or smooth waves. While also giving her own unique take of earth and sky. She tries to trick the eye and wonder if mosaic or stained glass is used in the foreground. Her abstract pieces are done with thick heavy body paint and swept on with freeing palette knife strokes. Which are also used in her landscape work. Her hope is that her work will evoke emotion or a memory of a special place or time.
